Many people knows what is Friendster (and if you don’t, welcome to the internet!). So anyways, everybody that knows what a friendster is, will probably know that there’s actually more of these kind of sites, of where you make your profiles, add up your friends into your list and have them post comments on you and your photos. Recently they have evolved into a more ‘personal’ space, which includes blog systems and such.
Anyways, what I’m going to talk about today is about another community site called MySpace. Ever since I started working in this CyberCafe, i’ve noticed that there’s quite an alarming amount of kids (teenagers, mainly) that comes to the CyberCafe, and spend hours and hours, just by logging into their myspace account and “play” (thats what they call it anyways). So out of curiousity, I’ve come across some of their site, and whoa, I have been revealed, a god-sent tips on how to ‘decorate’ your own myspace page. Read on!
#1 - Use A (Very) High Contrast Background
Yes! The higher the contrast of your background, the better it is!, Check it out (click on the image to view bigger version):
What do you think? It is absolutely readable isnt it? Especially after you pressed Ctrl+A. I might be able to agree that it is somehow a nice image that’s being used as the background. But whats the fucking point of making your ’space’ totally unreadable?
#2 - Put a music video! The more the merrier!

If background music isn’t annoying enough, put up a whole music video on your space! Yeah! The bigger the file, the better! Because people will wait for 15 hours for your god-forsaken music videos to load, they will stay at your site, right? Yeah, especially idiots. Not to mention loading those music video plugins on some computers will drag them down, and these poor dudes have to suffer thanks to our honorable Ms and Mr Cool here who put it up on their space. Morons.
#3 - MARQUEES is t3h win!
Yeah, moving text, scrolling text, they’re called Marquees. They might be cool if used properly, but what about a WHOLE page full of moving text? I immediately feel like throwing up, because they appears like bunch of worms in those Fear Factor series. YUCK! Don’t you guys ever wonder why does nice looking websites often don’t use marquees? Because its annoying to the visitor!

Gah. I got work to complete. But, I’ll be back! Stay tuned for part 2 :D

[...] I came home from work earlier, and while checking my blog for bugs (I’m still checking post by post, doing small bits of it everytime I have the time to spare) - one of the posts (the MySpace ones) pops up one interesting Adsense Advert, so being all curious, I clicked on it to find out what it is all about (Yes the ads DO interest me once a while). Interesting post. I came across this blog by accident, but it was a good accident. I have now bookmarked your blog for future use. Best wishes. Esther Baxter….
