Of course typical user wouldn’t understand what’s the hype is all about. Since they take things for granted.

Try GMail, try GTalk. Then freak out at the innovation :D

I’ve been trying to persuade my local peers to switch to Jabber since forever but to no avail.

When Gtalk first came out, sure, bunch of ‘em fell for the ‘hype’ (hey, it’s Google!). After the grace period, they went back to the good ‘ol .

Not that I’m complaining (actually, I do. kinda tedious to get different ID to talk to different people) I use Miranda (ultra light) and occasionally GAIM (biggest support for protocols) to link all of the ‘popular’ networks together to save memory. As of the time of writing, there is no way for people from different mainstream network (Jabber ain’t mainstream. yet) to cross-chat together using a single ID. O-S FTW.

Gtalk would be really useful for the corporate users, but most of them already had their own Jabber server or a serverless-based IM.

Let’s take it from ‘normal’ people P.O.V.:

I believe the Achilles heel of gtalk is no webcam support, minus 10 points for google. I know people who stick to MSN’s just because of webcam support. I don’t want to know why would IM needs a video support in the first place. To increase the ‘cyber’ experience? XD

Seriously, since Gtalk main selling point is voip, it would be a no brainer to include video support while they are at it.

Second mistake - No real-time file transfer! Another 10 points down the drain.

Can’t think of anything more right now. Perhaps I don’t have what it takes to be ‘normal’.
Bah, being ‘normal’ is overrated anyway.

Where Jabber fails, Gtalk has the chance to carry the banner on its behalf and make it to mainstream, hopefully they get their act together before it becomes another ‘Google-video-store’.

Hmm, I wonder whether Gtalk web-based chat can get through the IM blockade that most learning institution and company put to avoid loss in productivity. :P

Btw, your gmail id same as passport ke?

Fird says:

Ah the file transfer thing! Yep its the biggest drawback for now. I really would hope they somehow implement it soon.

One of my contacts told me she can use both GTalk and GMail’s GTalk in her office, of which Yahoo and MSN doesn’t work at all. So I guess it would work :) (Either that or the netadmins just totally dumb)

I’m started loving GTalk ever since they implement that “chatlog in your GMail account” feature. Since I hate it when my chatlogs are gone because of unforseen events. Last time there was IMSmarter service, but they closed down :(

Yep, my Gmail is my passport ID :) Easier that way
