A Flight, Nasi Lemak and Two Tires

Monday, May 29th, 2006

The three objects in the title might not be directly linked (except the first and the last, maybe) - but here’s the story on these three, in a completely related manner.

I went back to JB to help with my family’s moving (yeah, we’re moving house, somewhere in the same area), and I was supposed to go back to KL on Saturday via a flight. But thanks to our failure to remember that it is indeed the beginning of school holidays, we’re caught in the jam, and I successfully missed my flight (thank god I only booked the flight, and havent pick up the ticket yet).

So at night, since everybody is tired due to the day’s work, dad decided that we’re gonna have dinner outside. Initially he suggested that all of us just walk to the restaurant that is located behind our new house, since its so near. But suddenly somebody suggested the idea of eating somewhere else, and dad mentioned a really good ‘Nasi Lemak’ place around 30 mins drive away. Everyone agrees and I took the keys and cranked the Gen2 up.

Not sure if the above romanized kana is accurate, but it said “Lets learn English”. No explanation needed, just watch:

Fun with Spray Painting (and be awed)

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

Oh, this is not a bragging post - FAR from it. I wish I'm doing that :(

And for those beginner "case modders" that non-stop bragging about your shiny casings after painting/rubbing/waxing them more than 15 layers of stuff, keep in mind that there's more to spray painting than just shiny casing!

Comment Spams… Oh Comment Spams!

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

In the beginning, everybody knows that a SPAM is a canned beef. Shortly after the Internet boom, people is looking at SPAM as a bad thing - mainly useless and annoying items floating around the net - for no real reason. I mentioned 'item' instead of 'e-mail' because, nowadays, anything can technically be 'SPAM'ed. Anything really, from e-mails, sms, and advertisement spams, to the blog comment spams, forum post spams, and many more. Name any messaging/discussion/blogging engine and you'll get SPAM. Free of charge.

Comment Spamming in the blogging world is not really new. I've had once (if any of you remember my baddie.net's old blog) been spammed hundreds every single day. So the moment I've installed this blog on this domain, the very first thing I do is to install the Anti-Spam plugin for WordPress. My favorite one is Akismet. Luckily, the amount of the comment spam I'm getting nowadays is far less (perhaps because this site is not as much linked), but the amount is still annoying. My average 15 days period of spam would be around 100-150:

Akismet Spam

Why do these people do it? Well or various reasons - think of it like a bimbo (male or female, whichever suits your naughty thoughts) by the roadside, shouting, yelling, waving and pasting their posters all over the street, shop, road, vehicle or even people, simply to promote themselves and to make alot more people aware of their existence.

Similarly, these sites uses automatic scripts to crawl from blogs to blogs and post some comments on these blogs - usually containing alot of URLs linking back to their site. By doing so, the search engines everywhere will notice that a lot of other sites seemingly linking back to their site, thus boosting their ranking in the search engine.

How do they look like? Let me show some examples:

Spam Samples

There's practically no way to stop these people from doing such thing. Thus you now seeing alot of websites requires you to input some form of 'code' which is given via an image - and often the image have distorted letters, so that any 'smart' spamming engine could not spam on their sites. Yeah it's rather annoying, but people asked for it.

Trash Engineers a.k.a NBTD Guys

Sunday, May 14th, 2006

Sorry for the vulgar title for this post. But I couldn't seem to find a nicer name for certain people I see around. Well, actually I didn't see them, but I saw the outcome of their actions.

Edit: I've given it some thought and decided to change the title to be somewhat a little bit more proper

You know how Malaysians are pretty good at littering? I thought it was bad enough they throw, spit, or leave their trash/junks all over the place, until I started noticing another kind of people, who wouldn't, ever throw their rubbish in the proper place, but have the effort and courage to actually do something a little bit more 'hardworking' - yeah, like balancing an empty can on a door's hydraulic damper?

My Favorite S60 Apps (for N70)

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

Before I list down some of them, I need to point out that these two particular generation of Symbian-based Mobile phones : N70 and N90, uses a slightly different version of Symbian S60 - Symbian S60 v2.

The major difference is that this particular version offers 'Active Standby' screen (somewhat similar to MS Windows Mobile) - which shows a few shortcut icons, and your recent calendar items (appointments, memo, anniversary, etc).

Doing a ‘noble’ thing, neglecting the others?

Monday, May 8th, 2006

I am seriously mad at certain companies that suspends operations for a while in order to let their staffs to do 'holy' or 'noble' things (and then causing miseries and inconviniences to the public).

Today I was heading to work, and while trying to purchase my train ticket, to my surprise, both of the counters at the Serdang KTM Komuter station is closed! Glancing at the time, I'm guessing they are taking so-called 'prayer break'. Well, might appear as 'doing their duty as human who is worshipping the almighty god at the topmost priority no matter what is happening'. However, looking at the condition of the passengers, it appear that they actually neglecting certain responsibilities for another, in my serious opinion, these people has put their priorities upside down.

Imagine that small station, packed with almost a hundred people, who are stucked because the counters aren't open and all three ticketing machines only want to swallow coins. If I remember correctly, three trains from each direction come and go, and only like 3-4 people board each of them, thanks to everybody else being stucked there.

I've had this experience on a lot of offices (especially *cough* government ones *cough*). I find it weird that they couldn't take turns to do whatever they want. Perhaps the company puts up strict rules that everybody must go at once, and that leaving the counters all closed during operational hours is completely okay /sarcasm.

KTM Komuter, Serdang Closed Both Counters Pic: KTM Counters - All Closed (ignore that annoying dude that purposely posed in front of me)

I know this post is more like a rant than talking about the issue. It is unfortunate to me that it occurs during the time I'm rushing to the office.
