AdSense Tricks
In my last post about AdSense, I’ve highlighted about the most common mistakes made by AdSense publishers (also known as the website owner). As for today, let’s take a look at some of the best tricks in dealing with AdSense, to boost your AdSense income. Of course, there’s more tricks than listed here, however, I’m going to elaborate some of them that is most effective.
Color, color and color!. This might be a minor thing seemingly, however, this is one of the biggest factor that determines whether a visitor will actually read and give your ads a second thought, or they would totally ignore them - COLOR!
So what do you do to make them give your ads a second thought? Simple - make the AdSense Ads the same color as your website (or blog)! It is really simple! When your ads look like part of your website (it blends in), the chances of visitors to actually look at it and possibly click on it is even higher. I’m not saying you should confuse or trick visitors into clicking the ads, but what we’re trying to do is not to make the ads stand out too much that it wouuld be ignored totally.
STAY AWAY from the traditional, huge horizontal banners, and if possible, opt not to display an image banner with AdSense (you can do this while setting up your ad, refer to my Fund your site with AdSense (Part 1) article for more info on how to do this). Why not? Most visitors (especially seasoned ones) are already immune to banners and graphic advertisements - they are simply blind to them!
Placement (where, where, where) of your ads makes difference as well. Refer to Google’s Adsense Optimization Tips to find out where is the best location to put your Ads. Some areas of a website and blogs are prone to be more paid attention to, compared to the other. Make use of this psychology effect on visitors to capture their attention.
Make use of popular keywords. Publish article with certain popular-searched keywords. A good source to find out which is the most searched keywords (from time to time) is Most Popular Keywords or KeywordDiscovery. Make use of these most-used keywords to generate traffic to your website. More traffic translates to more visitors, which means more clicks as well!
Place Ads in your website so it appears like a normal part of the website. I’ve made a menu entry called “Sponsored Links” on my menu bar on the right, with the Google AdSense Link List style Ads. The more it seemed natural to the user, the higher the chance you’ll get some dough!
Use images next to your AdSense Ads to attract the visitors. Keep in mind, that using images consisting of arrows, or text or symbols that is pointing or hinting to the visitors to click on the ads are strictly prohibited. As explained in my Top AdSense Mistakes article, you are only allowed to use “Advertisements” or “Sponsored Links” as the heading for your ads. Be careful, be smart!
Use the full allowance of AdSense Ads on your page to the maximum! By right, you can place:
- Maximum of 3 Adsense for Contents (those banner Ads)
- 1 Link Units (those list of 4 or 5 links)
- 1 Referral Buttons (for each referral program)
… all at once! Yes, that’s at least five items you can place on your site at once to maximize the revenue!
I hope the tricks listed here will help you improve your commission income from AdSense, while still keeping visitors on your site. There’s no point in putting too many Ads at once in one page - this will only annoy the visitors and they will never return to your site, ever. So, think carefully, place the ads in stratergic location, and blend it into the site, so the visitors feel ‘at home’ while they browse your site for information.
Happy AdSense-ing!
