A big jump to Linux - uBuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft) - Updated!

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

Honestly I’m sick of Windows for the time being - it is very hard to keep your system tidy and up to mark without doing any significant tweaking, installing various security tools and make sure everything is up to date and in check. Chances are, once a while you’ll have some unexpected viral being transmitted in a newly discovered loophole, that even your best security suite could miss. By the time any patches are released to overcome such problem, the damage has already been done.

The only thing I like of using Windows is by far the fact that almost all games are designed to be run on windows-only, and the fact that it is rather easy to use. At least for Windows XP. Vista is coming soon, but I don’t think I can afford owning one license of such OS. Not to mention that I’ll definitely need a major hardware upgrade! More money, which I don’t have!

So, one day, I sit down in the office and decided that I’ll really try out Linux this time and try to make it work. After scouting around for which distribution I should try, I ended up with uBuntu. Once I finished getting the ISO images, burned them, and then use some partitioning tool to make space on my hard drive for the uBuntu installation. (more…)

What’s My Kuler? - Adobe Kuler Service

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

If you are familiar with designing with color, then chances are you will be fiddling with one (or a lot of) color wheel tools. A lot of these tools are made available for free, be it online or offline. Recently, Adobe rolled out a new color-scheme application called 'Kuler'.

As with most web-based application of today, this is an interactive and community-driven service. You can share, browse and rate other people's color schemes and perhaps use some of them for your projects. (more...)

Durably Durable

Monday, November 20th, 2006

I'm tired of my Green Theme for now, and I'm not motivated in any way to make myself a new one. I'm sick of the old blue one as well. So after a random browsing through tons and tons of Wordpress themes out there, I find that durable fits my taste.

This theme interferes with my Lightbox (the one that fades the page to black and centers the image when you click on thumbnail) script, so I disable it for the time being.

p/s: Oh, I didn't know this theme contains AJAX implementation until after a while!

p/s(2): Yeah my Green dude is gone from the corner. Don't sweat it :p

Kanon (2006) Spin

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Sorry if lately my posts have been cheesy, lame and far less entertaining (well, not like the others are entertaining anyways :p). So after watching episode 1 of Kanon 2006 (thanks Shiro!), I come up with this short clip. Yes I know it is old, but I like it!:

Uguu~

If you feel like flaming or saying anything, feel free to leave a comment!

Now.. I need to find something to do...

(Oh, if you're wondering what this is all about, read here)

Malaysia & Singapore is part of China?

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

My friend Shiro pointed some announcement by Gravity Corp. (for the uninitiated, Gravity Corp. is a Korean company that runs their flagship game 'Ragnarok Online').

It cracks me up when they say "... and 5 Chinese territories (China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore & Malaysia)"

Ignorance is a bliss indeed. Even our neighbor doesn't know who we are :D

Exaggeration at it’s best. Really

Yes, this is my "YAMRP" (Yet-Another-MSN-Related-Post).

Let's cut the story short - I was being asked by someone about the pricing of DVD+R Discs (yes, blanks, duh):

Mr. Weirdo : Heya! How r U?
Me : Fine thanks. Been a while since we chatted :D
Mr. Weirdo : Haha ya lo, all busy what. Me also busy failing my papers haha!
Me : -.-; You haven't changed lol.
Mr. Weirdo : Anyways, I'm looking for some DVD+Rs. Nid many, 500 liddat
Me : Wah, you're running some pirated DVD shop or something?
Mr. Weirdo : No lah, got some project in Uni mar
Me : Fair enough. I rarely buy DVDRs (usually I buy in 25s, they last me half a year LOL) - but from what I can see, you can get decent ones at RM1/disc if you buy a spindle of 100 pcs.
Mr. Weirdo : Hmm... dem expensive lah
Me : Expensive? I think it's reasonable. Considering they're 8x discs.
Mr. Weirdo : Cannot lah like dis. My place offer much cheaper wan u know! liddat better me go buy here lo
Me : Anything that suits you. Just curious tho, how much is your place offering? If its really that cheap then maybe you can get some for me hehe.
Mr. Weirdo : RM99/100pcs only, damn cheap! Not even 100!
Me : ... o..okay :D

Note : liddat = like that, nid = need, dem = damn, dis = this, wan = one (also 'want' sometimes depending on context)

zomg Dem cheap! /sarcastic

Leekspin, Loituma-Girl (yes I have NBTD)

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

Note : The acronym 'NBTD' means 'Nothing better to do', although to a certain extent most people I know make it sounds like whoever does this deserves to die, by means of cutting tongue and burnt to death

I was bored at the office, and opened this website (it kind of haunts my mind for days now *sigh*). Then suddenly I got some stuff to do, so without realizing it, I've been listening to this for a good one hour+. I really hope it would not have any effect on my sanity and intelligence!

leekspin_s.jpg

Funny thing is, I did not get sleepy as I normally would at this time of the day - amazing? perhaps coincidence. Heh.

If you're wondering what this is all about, it is thanks to this one smart kid who made - www.leekspin.com, effectively combining a scene of Orihime Inoue from the anime Bleach spinning a leek (it's a type of vegetable) and Loituma's Ievan Polkka (a song sung in one of Finland's traditional dialect). The part of the song that is featured in this endless animation actually doesn't really mean anything - just gibberish sounds. Read about it at WikiPedia.

I couldn't take it after this point. I'm starting to go crazy. How long can you guys take it? :D

Side story: Few days back I took the car to a car wash, and being infected by this epidemic, I burned one cd, containing only this one song and set it to loop in the car's player. Apparently the workers find it amusing, and they turn it up loud and dance (literally wiggling butts) to the tune while washing the car. It is a priceless view I must say. Wished they're girls tho :p

If you want another form of torture, do visit badgerbadgerbadger.com. Note : No badgers are harmed in this animation.
