Random Space Sighting Adventures

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

I’m sorry if this post is crap, but I needed a place to dump this “sighting” so I can get it off my mind. I was completely bored, having a headache and not feeling well today. As I was approving some requests at MySpace (hold off your zomg wtf remarks please, I don’t frequent this site, just that once in a pink-gaussian-blurred moon, I do get some requests, which I naturally approve).

Since I got nothing to do, I started browsing MySpace. I saw funny profile tags, like:

virgin.jpg
This is like saying “I’m at legal age, fresh and ready - come and get me, and do stuff”. At least I got that kind of impression.

/end of adventure.

Now, please shoot me with all your remarks.

How To: CSS Image Rollover Tutorial

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

For the uninitiated, a “rollover” here refers to the state of an object (or text) on a website that changes it’s appearance when a mouse cursor rolls over it. Try hovering your mouse over the four buttons on top of this page, you will see that they change their color slightly. The reason behind doing such is not necessarily to impress people, however, it is used to provide some sort of “tactile” feedback to the visitor, telling them that something is there.

CSS Hover Tutorial

Imagine typing on a completely flat keyboard that doesn’t press in or give that clicking sound. You would feel kind of weird. You don’t? Oh my.

Let’s get busy with our coding now, shall we? (more…)

Why Do People Make Their Lives Hard? Part 2

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007
Note: This is a venting post, and it is often very self-centered. There’s a reason it is posted in the “selfish Thoughts” section. If you read this post and are hurt, please consult me for clarification. Otherwise, keep quiet.

ArghI’m sorry guys, this is yet-another-whine thread. If you don’t like these kind of post, back off now. This post don’t really have a direct relation on my previous post “Why Do People Make Their Lives Hard?. But I do feel that it is somewhat around the same action people always do.

We often hear employees complain about their company not being on-time, not being competent, not paying enough, etc. I mean, these kind of thing happens all the time. Let’s look at one recent incident that almost cause me to be a murderer.

You see, recently, my team involves in a company transition (we are transferred from company X to company E). Company E promised to give a better or equal, pro-rated benefits as given by company X. This is written in their offer letter, thus a black and white is there. (more…)

Are you a 70’s or 80’s Baby?

Monday, May 14th, 2007

I got this in my e-mail earlier, sent by one of my contact’s contact’s contact’s (…) contact of which I don’t know who. Anyways, here’s how it goes:

Signs that you are a 70s’ or 80s’ baby:

  • You grew up watching G-Force, He-man, Transformers, Thundercats, Silver Hawk, Woody Woodpecker, Chipmunks and Mickey Mouse. Not to forget Ninja Turtles, Mask, Smurfs and Voltron too.

It is amazing how most of these animated series is pretty much fresh in my mind. Especially Voltron, Thundercats and Transformers. The silly song “Cheetara lari laju, Cheetara bukak Baju” (cheetara runs fast, cheetara take off her clothes) and “Thundercat lawan tikus, Thundercat mampus” (Thundercats fights the mouse, and Thundercats die) still ringing! Hormone-powered growing up male kids, can’t expect much eh?

  • Girls watched Japanese cartoon like My Little Pony, “Xiao Tian Tian”, “Hua Xian Zi” etc.

I don’t know the other two, but I sure did watch a few episodes of My Little Pony

  • You grew up brushing your teeth with a mug in primary school after recess time.

Well not exactly everyday, more like once or twice a year

How A Careless Mistake Rewards me a New Phone

Friday, May 11th, 2007

I felt a bit guilty about this, but then again, it isn’t actually my fault. Not at all :D

What is? Well, I have this colleague, let’s call him Sam. Sam just got a new phone - a Nokia N80. Not exactly the most cutting edge model, but like any other “my friend just got a new phone” situation, we’re bound to ask to play with it. So as I was playing the phone for a while, he suggested that I try the phone for the day (I’m using an Nokia N70). Surprised, I agreed to him. So we backup our phone data on the PC and switched phones.

It all went well, till he goes for lunch. That’s right, he left my phone (with his SIM Card in it) on the hawker stall. Of course, a phone on an empty table won’t last more than three minutes I say. So the moment he got back there, it was gone. None of the hawkers notice (or pretend to not notice) the phone. (more…)

Would You Pay to be Accidentally Dead, Delayed Flight and Luggage?

Friday, May 11th, 2007

I was strolling around KL Sentral to kill time while waiting for the next ERL, and I stumbled upon this bunting (banner):

Travel Partner travel-partner2.jpg

Of course, we all know what this company really means. However, the way they put it is making it sounds like you’re going to pay them to get:

  • Accidental death and permanent disablement (now you can claim from other insurance company right? XD)
  • Your luggage to be delayed on purpose
  • Your travel to be delayed, if not canceled and have your deposit forfeited
  • They will make sure you miss your flight, and if you get on, your relayed flights will be mis connected
  • They will make sure you are booking an overbooked flight at all cost
  • And in the end, everything is your fault (Personal liability)

Imagine the total difference by simply adding the word “protection” or “compensation” behind every one of the “highlights”

Why Do People Makes Their Lives Hard?

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

Usually when I hang out with people, be it my colleagues, friends from varsity or simply old friends from school time, this particular phrase will often be spoken at least once:

Meh, life sucks

True to a certain extent, initially I thought.

Today I arrived a little late to work, and decided to have my own solitude by having breakfast alone. I purposely go to the San Francissco cafe located near my office because usually my colleagues don’t visit this place. Saves me from accidental “hang out”. Don’t get me wrong though, not that I am anti-social or running away from them, just that once a while it is nice to be on your own enjoying yourself as your partner.

Naturally, when you’re alone you tend to think about stuff. So a thought come to my mind - why do people often makes their life harder? (more…)
