How To: Faster StreamyX Web Surfing With TMNet’s Transparent Proxy

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Note: This information is now obsolete, as this proxy is no longer to be found!

I don’t know about you guys, but the Internet connection (via Streamyx) in Cyberjaya is terrible. Websites takes a full minute just to get their host names resolved to IP address, not to mention a terrible download speed from international sites (I’m not talking about BitTorrent or any other P2P downloading here).

Then I remembered, during some outages months ago, you can sort-of re-route your connections via TMnet’s transparent proxy server. While this will not improve your gaming/BitTorrent/P2P downloading, it sure does make your surfing a hell lot better.

Should I Throw Him Out Of The Window?

Friday, June 15th, 2007

I got one big question, open for all.

What if your subordinate, who refuses to do any job (within their scope) with the reason “I don’t know” and having no initiative to try to find out anything about it, but have the cheek (and very high initiative) to ask you to do follow-up on their case of not getting paid enough, and have the cheek to ask you to promote them to a department that is even higher than your own manager’s position?

What would you do to this guy? As far as employment rights is concerned, of course his case (if there’s any) should be followed up. But would it be worth it? I am in no position of paying him or decided how much he would get paid. Should I even bother?

Or,

Should I throw him out of the window instead?

Anyone?

Simon and His Chair

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Today’s a strange day, I felt like climbing on top of this office building, right on the 23rd floor and look down. I am afraid of heights, so that would be weird for me to have such desire.

And then comes Simon, with his black chair saying he wants to go to his friends place upstairs. Weird guy. I continue playing with my USB Fridge. It chills the can drink!

“Kyaaaaaaa~~~~~!!!” said Jessica.

She died again. Lucky Alex have resurrection skill. Phew. All these happens while Natsuki busy head-shotting all possible gigantic crabs around her. Good experience eh?

And then VJ comes with his brand-new docking station. I’m envious. I want one too, even though I don’t need it.

Yet another Chocolate-flavored Energy Biscuit into my throat. Healthy snack?

Ah well, now where is that butterfly that flies till 11th floor?

How To: Auto Login in Windows Vista

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

Something really simple, I know - but probably Microsoft’s effort to make the OS secure-by-default, they buried the automatic login options deep down.

To enable automatic login, press start and type “control usedpasswords2” (yes can be done in the search box on the start menu). This dialog will pop up:

Enabling automatic login in Windows Vista

What you have to do is to click on the user that you want the PC to log on with automatically, and remove the tick on the “Users must enter user name and password to use this computer”. Press OK and it will ask for the password of the selected user.

Enter the password and you’re good to go!

Microsoft Surface - Minority Report in Reality (Finally?)

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Microsoft Surface I’m pretty sure this is not the first worldwide announcement of similar technology - some PDA manufacturers have had multi-touch screens for years (although very hard to use), and the pretty recently announced Apple iPhone sports improvement over the multi-touch displays that awes the geeks and made Steve Jobs goes “awww”.

Looks like our Redmond-based company have come up with their own version. This time, it’s a computer. Forget mouse and keyboard, I present you - Microsoft Surface. A video and brief information after the jump. (more…)
