How To: Faster StreamyX Web Surfing With TMNet’s Transparent Proxy

Note: This information is now obsolete, as this proxy is no longer to be found!

I don’t know about you guys, but the Internet connection (via Streamyx) in Cyberjaya is terrible. Websites takes a full minute just to get their host names resolved to IP address, not to mention a terrible download speed from international sites (I’m not talking about BitTorrent or any other P2P downloading here).

Then I remembered, during some outages months ago, you can sort-of re-route your connections via TMnet’s transparent proxy server. While this will not improve your gaming/BitTorrent/P2P downloading, it sure does make your surfing a hell lot better.

The HTTP Proxy server’s IP is 219.93.178.162 and it runs on port 3128. Here’s how the configuration of my Firefox looks like:

StreamyX Proxy Server

Note: Some websites will be slower through this proxy. If you’re experiencing any, simply add their address in the “No Proxy for:” box (oh yeah, don’t forget to put the IP address of your router/modem too!)

I’ve tested this, and getting good surfing speed for the time being. Give it a try!

Wewt! Thanks for the tip. I’ll be sure to try it when I need to surf more than play games.

Btw, does photobucket (main page and all other related pages) load slow for you? Wonder if the proxy can help on that.

Fird: Photobucket still take a while to load via proxy though, but not as bad as the one without :)

hi! can u give some tips on buying laptops for personal use, what brand, model, specs to get value for money? tq!!

Imu says:

@azain - Try the Compaq AMD Turion x2 (that comes along with Geforce 6150 3D) for cheap solution. C2D a little expensive, but worth the buy. Depends on your budget, and hope this info helps.

I tried some tools in shaping bandwidth, pretty much it @#$% up my drivers and hang my pc a lot. VPN is probably the variable solution for now =)

RM30 je sebulan. :P Anyway this proxy really improves speed on some site. But on others can’t access at all lol.
