How To: Remove Those Pesky Thumbs.db files!
Note: Removing thumbs.db in Windows XP will effectively slow down previewing your images (in explorer thumbnail mode), as this is what Windows XP uses to store the thumbnails of the images in the folder. You will need to disable this function in Windows XP permanently if you would not want the thumbs.db file to be regenerated again every time you opened a folder in tumbnail view.
If you're using Vista, you'll notice that Vista actually stored it's thumbnails in a centralized folder (rather than generating thumbs.db file in every folder it previews). If you have upgraded from previous Windows XP installation, or have copied the folder from any other Windows XP based machines, the thumb.db file will be there still (it's hidden, and taking up space).
Sure, you can open up those folders one by one and remove them. But wouldn't that be a huge hassle?
No fret, there is a small tool (a free one too!) that can help you remove this pesky hidden file and (potentially) save you a bit of space - Annihilator [THUMBS.DB]
Using it is as easy as;
1) Choosing the root folder you want to clean up, and then
2) Press GO
3) Click on "Annihilate"
And you're done!
