How To: Resize Vista’s Desktop Icon

There are two ways to resize the desktop icon in Windows Vista. One of the ways is to use one of the three defined sizes:

Right-click on any blank space in your Desktop, and choose “View“, then pick one of the three “Large“, “Medium” or “Classic” size (they correspond to 80px, 48px and 32px respectively). However, these pre-defined sizes might not suit what you need. There is another way to resize the icons.

Resize Desktop Icons to your liking

The trick is simple - hold down your Ctrl key, and rotate your mouse scroll wheel up or down. You’ll notice the icons grew/shrink. You can resize your desktop icons to a whooping 256px!

I don’t know if anyone would use that icon for everyday use, but it is certainly fun to see the icons at that scale.

To reset your icons back to their original size, you can Right-click again on the desktop, and choose View -> Medium Icons.

I use [Ctrl + mouse scroll up/down] to dynamically change the size of icon, plus, you have the freedom to resize it way beyond the preset Large/Medium/Classic; from a teeny 16×16 to a whopping 265×256.
