How To: Synchronize Your Folders with SyncToy 2.0! (Part 2)

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

In my previous guide - How To: Synchronize Your Folders with SyncToy 2.0! (Part 1), I have detailed on how to use Microsoft SyncToy 2.0 to set up folder pairs that you want to backup/copy/synchronize. In this second part, I will guide you on how to schedule this task to be run automatically.

Note: This guide is written in Windows Vista. If you are using Windows XP, the guide will be similar in certain ways, but there might be a slight difference in configuring the scheduler

A Quick Recap

From the previous guide, we have set up a folder pair that we’d like to synchronize. Our last setup is as follows:

Basically, we have set up one folder pair and set it to be copied over to a network location for backup purpose. (more…)

Happy Labour’s Day!

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

1st May of every year marks a happy day for all of us that are already working as an employee in any company (of course the employers aren’t very happy because they have to stop the business for a day :P).

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of us a Happy Labour’s Day!

For those who don’t like their job or your superior, here’s a few methods of resigning:

Method 1: Simple and straight to the point

iPod Touch + Phone, Finally!

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

I got sick of carrying two gadgets around, so I take a drastic measure - sell both and get one that can do both! I’m using a HP 512 Voice Messenger that I bought myself for my birthday last year, and somewhere in Nov 2007, lady luck grants my wish and I won myself an iPod Touch.

But you see, carrying these items in my pocket is starting to be a burden - because I keep coins in my pocket as well, I don’t want to risk scratching the iPod Touch, so I have to put it in one pocket and junk everything else in another pocket, and I appear like an army wearing slacks due to the bulge on the other pockets.

So after rounds of auctioning and answering silly ultra-low-price offers from various people (trust me, those who have sold items in LowYat would understand this), I manage to sell them off at a price I’m comfortable with, and I got myself this:

And now I can carry only one item - not even in my pocket, but attached firmly on my belt!

I am aware of severe limitation on this device, as it isn’t as cutting-edge or modern like most smartphones out there. But I was thinking “Ah what the heck! If not now, then never!”. Best part of this? I actually made some profit by switching!

Job-Hopping Season?

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

I don’t know if it is just me, but apparently the first two month of 2008 seems like a job-hopping time for quite a lot of people.

In my team alone, four guys resigned one after another (two of them even silently slip their resignation letters on the pile on my desk >.>), the team next to me also facing four attritions. Yesterday while having a puff at the cafe, I overheard a group of people that are talking about their soon-to-be new workplace.

So tell me, any of you guys changing as well? (Hikki’s, stay away!)

Fird’s Desk: 2007 vs 1Q 2008

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

There’s some significant change in my lifestyle, habit, interests that also affects how my desk is arranged (I didn’t notice this, until recently - ok call me Mr. Dense, but oh well!)

Let’s take a look at how my desk looks like during (most of) 2007 (click on it to view a larger version):

This particular photo is taken somewhere in November 2007, and my desk stays in this configuration most of the time. (more…)

It’s Raining Men… no.. crap.. Hallelujah!

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

Cyberia Smarthomes might not have a not-so-smart homes after all, but nothing beats the idiocy of some of its occupants.

Seriously, this has been going on for months. Some idiot who live a few floor above my unit keeps on throwing their trash over the kitchen window (instead of dumping it in the trash bin that is provided on every floor - which is like less than a minute walk from your unit).

Imagine, you’re tired after an exhausting long day at work, came back only to find some disgusting stale food/liquid/god-knows-what substance splattered all over your walking path, and of course, it comes with the olfactory-arousing aroma. (more…)

I’m sorry, your resume is non-returnable. YES even in E-mails!

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

It’s just so cute on how companies nowadays advertise on the online job portals for their desired candidates. The best instruction was this (for today, at least):

Please send your digital resume (with attached digital passport-sized photograph) to some.body@company.com.my (non-returnable)

I know, I know it’s one of those dry lame jokes of the day. But it made my day somewhat.

P/s: On a totally unrelated note, to whoever that unplugs my living room light’s timer unit, next time, at least let me know or learn how to plug it back again and set it back to the correct time! I hate coming back from one long day and having to go into darkness, and potentially bump into something harmful. Courtesy dammit. Better still, ask for the correct socket to unplug from. Small matter, I know. But for someone as fussy and detailed as yourself, you’re not showing it when it doesn’t concern your items.
