Another Step Ahead

Monday, March 19th, 2007

Isn’t it weird that when you have so many things you would like to share to everybody, that would be the time where you don’t feel like blogging at all?

That’s exactly what happened to me recently (and not so recently). There’s a lot of things that have happened to me as well as my surroundings, that most of them are blog-worthy - but I just don’t feel like putting it down on these pages, for no apparent reason.

For once, my tiring shift work days are over. No I did not job hop (in fact, I planned to stay here for a great deal of time). I am now the typical nine-to-six, five days workforce, who will be happily participating in the morning rush, and evening jam.

On the good note, I have given up on driving to work. It is just costly and tiring. The idea of having to pay yourself to drive just doesn’t make sense. I take trains now. At least I can relax throughout the journey. It’s fast too.

Workload increases tremendously. While previously I can waste company resources to surf, chat, blog and sometimes stream some music and videos off the net, now I hardly can find the chance to even think of it. Daily schedules includes meeting, and meeting and more meeting. After a mere three days of me into the new task, my MS Outlook calendar for the next few months is already filled up with meetings. Not even a single day spared! Yes I’m not exaggerating either.

On the good note though, I can see my near future target right on track!

Yes I know this post probably doesn’t mean anything to anyone else. But then again, that doesn’t matter. Right sayang? :)

Wish all of you a very good Happy New Year 2007!

Goodbye 2006, hello higher toll, petrol and any-rates! *sniff*

p/s: For those who keeps on creating resolutions and “new goals” on every new year, just stop doing that and forget it! Why bother waiting till the new year to start something? Why don’t start it right there and then? :D

My Strange Sense of Entertainment

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

I’ve been told, quite a number of times, that I have a strange sense of entertainment. While I do think it is a little bit strange, but it never occurred to me that it is so strange that people are so bothered about it - even when I did not bother them at all.

One of the things that I find entertaining is driving. No I’m not really much of a car geek, but the driving experience in KL is indeed entertaining - ESPECIALLY when there’s traffic jams. Yes, I find traffic jams very entertaining. Some of my colleagues frowned upon the idea of me traveling via LDP every day back and forth from Cyberjaya to Damansara Heights. They will eek at the sight of the congestion of the traffic, especially at the Sunway toll gate.

Here’s where the fun starts - you’ll see human behaviors. Most of the time they’re impatient to go through the toll. Trying to get ahead of everybody and reach their destination as fast as they can. Wow I never recalled people that is THAT eager to pay the toll and come to work - most of the time people tries to avoid tolls and work! During this haste, there’s still entertainment. On a very lucky day, I get to see how a Proton Wira got stucked with a small lorry by the sides, thanks to the fact that both are trying to cut into lanes but do not want to negotiate (give way) to each other. They effectively blocks two tollgate lanes just like that. Of course, they then get out of their vehicles and start blaming each other. (more…)

Damn Right

Sure, it’s a mistake to romanticize all this any more than is strictly necessary. Web 2.0 harnesses the stupidity of crowds as well as its wisdom. Some of the comments on YouTube make you weep for the future of humanity just for the spelling alone, never mind the obscenity and the naked hatred.

I really loved this line. Taken from cnn.com’s TIME : Person of the Year - You

Pizza Hut, special delivery!… NOT!

Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

Note: This post is a little back-dated. It was in my draft for a while and I didn’t have time to finish it then.

On Oct 27th (that is around a few days after Raya or Eid ul-Fitr), me and Shiro planned to meet one of our ‘colleague’ (the quote marks because we consider him as a colleague, but we never met him, as we’re sort of his colleague in some online community). After a thorough thought (yeah, you know how hard it is to decide where to eat sometimes) we decided to make it easy - meet at the Pizza Hut @ Suria KLCC.

I arrived first, and since I don’t want us to wait further for the food later on, I decided I should start ordering right away, so we can immediately munch when everyone arrives. (more…)

Exaggeration at it’s best. Really

Yes, this is my “YAMRP” (Yet-Another-MSN-Related-Post).

Let’s cut the story short - I was being asked by someone about the pricing of DVD+R Discs (yes, blanks, duh):

Mr. Weirdo : Heya! How r U?
Me : Fine thanks. Been a while since we chatted :D
Mr. Weirdo : Haha ya lo, all busy what. Me also busy failing my papers haha!
Me : -.-; You haven’t changed lol.
Mr. Weirdo : Anyways, I’m looking for some DVD+Rs. Nid many, 500 liddat
Me : Wah, you’re running some pirated DVD shop or something?
Mr. Weirdo : No lah, got some project in Uni mar
Me : Fair enough. I rarely buy DVDRs (usually I buy in 25s, they last me half a year LOL) - but from what I can see, you can get decent ones at RM1/disc if you buy a spindle of 100 pcs.
Mr. Weirdo : Hmm… dem expensive lah
Me : Expensive? I think it’s reasonable. Considering they’re 8x discs.
Mr. Weirdo : Cannot lah like dis. My place offer much cheaper wan u know! liddat better me go buy here lo
Me : Anything that suits you. Just curious tho, how much is your place offering? If its really that cheap then maybe you can get some for me hehe.
Mr. Weirdo : RM99/100pcs only, damn cheap! Not even 100!
Me : … o..okay :D

Note : liddat = like that, nid = need, dem = damn, dis = this, wan = one (also ‘want’ sometimes depending on context)

zomg Dem cheap! /sarcastic

RM500 one time if you want, or pay RM400/year if you don’t?

Recently, on my way back to JB, I’ve got this one phone call:

Him : Hello Mr. Firdouss, I’m Shereen from Some Gold Card Thingie Membership
Me : Huh? I don’t remember applying for Some Gold Card Thingie Membership
Him : Don’t worry sir, this membership is only entitled to any Visa credit card holder
Me : Well, I still didn’t applied for such membership
Him : Anyways sir, we’re gonna need a confirmation from you, could I know which bank is your credit card is from and the number please?
Me : Look, I don’t need such membership and I don’t want it anyways, and I don’t even apply for it!
Him : Well, if you confirm the membership, we’ll charge you only one-time Rm5xx, but otherwise you’ll be charged Rm4xx annually
Me : Hey, I don’t want such membership, as I said I did not apply for any Some Gold Card Thingie Membership!
Him : Like i said sir, we’ll charge you only one-time Rm5xx, but otherwise you’ll be charged Rm4xx annually *hangs up*

WTF? Anyone had this before? I’m eagerly waiting for my statement to see what’s gonna happen. I seriously find their stuff weird. I know they can buy off information directly from banks. I’m soo terminating this card right after I settled it soon!

(I’m still harrased by the other promoter till now!)

Got My Moo Flickr Cards!

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

Yesterday, on my way back, I stopped by the mail boxes and dig into my mailbox to see if there's anything in it. There's two mails - one is the overdue Streamyx bill of the previous tenant of this unit, and another, a very thick envelop, stamped from London (!). Addressed to me. I was curious.

Went back and opened it. Tada! My free Moo.com's Flickr MiniCards are here!

Moo Cards!

(flickr! page)

The cards are really tiny though, thus the name 'MiniCards'. The free promotion is sold out so I guess they only have the 100-piece pack left now :)

Check out Moo.com's Flickr! MiniCards Page.
